Fire Prevention and Safety

FIRE PREVENTION SAFETY PROCEDURES!

Listed below are some simple rules to follow that will prevent fires in your work areas:

DO NOT

  • Overload the electrical outlets.
  • Plug high-voltage items into electrical outlets.
  • Use undersized or lightweight extension cords.
  • Use space heaters.
  • Obstruct aisles, hallways, or Fire Exit doors.
  • Accumulate more than daily waste in or about your work area.
  • Allow office machines and other type of machinery to operate unattended.
  • Burn candles in your office or work areas.
  • Use live Christmas Trees.

DO

  • Report all fire hazards or violations to 911 immediately.
  • Check the electric cords on all office equipment periodically.
  • Know the location of your office fire extinguishers and how to use the extinguishers.
  • Know the location of the alarm pull stations on your floor.
  • Know the location of fire exits on your floor.

SMOKE

If you smell Smoke:

  • Do not pull fire alarm station if you only smell smoke. Dial 911 – security will investigate the odor immediately

Visible Sign of Smoke:

  • Dial 911
  • Proceed to stairwell
  • Evacuate the fire/area/your floor
  • Gather at designated area as designated on the Building Evacuation Route and Assembly Area Map.
